LAHORE The provincial officers of the Punjab will go on strike if Managing Director Punjab Mineral Development Corporation Shafqat-ur-Rehman Ranjha is not surrendered to the federal government and FIR is not registered against him for torturing a PCS officer. This was announced by President PCS Officers Association Punjab Rai Manzoor Nasir, who was addressing a press conference here on Wednesday at the Lahore Press Club. Other office-bearers of the Association were also present. While providing details of the incident, victim Ataullah Siddiqui, Secretary Punjab Mineral Development Corporation, said he had submitted a complaint against the MD Shafqat Ranjha to the Secretary Mineral Development Department proving Ranjhas corruption and misuse of seven official vehicles and illegal grant of contracts to his relatives. After this, Ranjha got Siddiqui transferred to district Sheikhupura, and the Lahore High Court suspended the transfer orders upon Siddiqui case. On Monday the last, Ranjha called Saddiqui to his office, bolted the room from inside and with the help of security guards severely tortured him and threatened to kill him. Rai Manzoor Nasir said DMG officers had been persecuting the provincial officers in their province. Using their influence, the DMG officers are obstructing registration of the FIR despite the fact that a cognizable offence has been committed and a written compliant has been submitted with the Police Station Qilla Gujjar Singh. Under the law, the police are bound to register the case irrespective of the status of the offender, he said, adding Ranjha had such a track-record of torturing his subordinates. He lamented that no one from the Punjab govt had talked to the tortured officer, which proved, the govt is treating the provincial officers like step-mothers.
