QUETTA - Balochistan Senior Minister Maulana Abdul Wasay has said the opening of US consulate in the provincial capital will aggravate the situation in the province. The situation will deteriorate if the government allows the US to set up its consulate in Quetta as it is not in the best interest of Balochistan, Wasay told a press conference Thursday. The JUI-F has been opposing the US plan to open its consulate in Quetta and the party would continue its efforts against the plan as it will create KP-like situation in the province, he said. Wasay criticised the previous government for, what he called, its wrong policies which pushed the country into chaos. He maintained that though the JUI-F had expressed its reservations on the previous governments policies but the ex-rulers turned down its concerns. He feared that if the situation was not bettered, the US and Nato forces would target sensitive installations. He said the JUI-F was gaining popularity in the province owing to its policies and a large number of people, including nationalists and political leaders, were joining it. He dispelled the impression that the state agencies were involved in deteriorating law and order in the country, saying that the US and other elements were destabilising the country.
