LAHORE Rejecting allegations that assasinated former Governor Salmaan Taseer had committed blasphemy, the Minhajul Quran International Ulema Council has stressed that the religious forces have launched movement for release of Mumtaz Hussain Qadri without necessary academic research. Stance of MQI, an outfit from Barelvi school of thought, is in stark contradiction to the rest of the religious parties that have launched a countrywide movement for the release of Taseers assassin. Addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club on Thursday, the MQI ulema stressed that Salmaan Taseers statement did not amount to blasphemy of the Prophet (PBUH). The main purpose of MQI press conference was to condemn certain Barelvi scholars who had used harsh words against Dr Tahirul Qadri for supporting Salman Taseer. Muslim scholars have specified all the statements amounting to blasphemy and Taseers remarks should be examined in the light of those, said Farhat Hussain Shah, nazim of MQI ulema council. Allama Imdadullah Khan, Mir Asif Akbar, Allama Asghar Siddiqi, Mufti Usman Sialvi, Ghulam Murtaza Alvi and Allama Mumtaz Qadri were also present. Coming hard on those spearheading the movement for the release of Qadri, Farhat Hussain Shah said that they had not carried out research on Shariah laws relating to blasphemy. He criticized Aalmi Tanzim Ahle Sunnat leader Pir Afzal Qadri, Jamaat Ahle Sunnat leader Pir Mahfooz Mashadi and Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali for giving insulting remarks against Dr Tahirul Qadri. He suggested religious scholars to come out with academic knowledge instead of mere abuses and consult fatwa of Dr Tahirul Qadri before proceeding further on the issue.
