ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and US Ambassador Richard G Olson met on Tuesday and discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in connection to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the USA.
The meeting focused on the areas of economy, energy, trade and investment.
Richard Olson said that the government and people of the USA are eagerly looking forward for the Prime Minister’s visit.
Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar hoped that the visit would add a new chapter to Pak-US cooperation. He said that Pakistan wished to bring bilateral trade and economic cooperation in line with the level of overall Pak-US relations.
Dar also met participants of the 103rd National Management Course. Rector NSPP, Ismail Qureshi, Dean National Management College (NMC), Naeem Aslam and other members of the NMC faculty accompanied the delegation.
The Finance Minister presented a brief overview of the economy and said that the government having successfully attained economic stability and re-engagement of international financing institutions was now firmly pursuing the goal of economic growth and employment enhancement.
The Minister said that apart of due focus on economy, the government had also paid attention to anti-terrorism operation to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for everyone. The government had also taken up daunting challenge of rehabilitation of TDPs, he said. Minister Dar also mentioned the government’s efforts for strengthening social security network and measures it took for energy sector development. He stated that the government envisioned adding more than 10,000 MW of energy till December 2017. He said the government was determined to achieve 6-7% growth rate within its tenure and had a desire to increase the budgetary allocation for education from current under 2% to 4% with the participation of the provinces. He mentioned that development expenditure had been increased from Rs300 billion to Rs700 billion in two years, and the government wanted that all the provinces should  benefit from this enhancement.
The Minister wished all the participants success in the training course and said they had an important role to play in the country’s economic development and social uplift.
Earlier, Additional Secretary Finance, Dr. Shujaat, Economic Advisor S. Ejaz Wasti and Director General, Economic Reforms Unit, Dr. Khaqan Hasan Najeeb gave presentations to the visiting delegation about the working of the Ministry of Finance, budget making process and management and reform of public sector enterprises.
