LAHORE - Investigation police yesterday claimed to have seized a huge cache of automatic weapons as part of its gun-control campaign.

A police spokesperson said the investigators “have recovered 34 heavy rifles including Kalashnikovs, 7-MM rifles, Pump-Action guns, and bullets and cartridges worth four million rupees”.

As part of the national action plan, the police investigators have stepped up their gun-control efforts to further reduce gun-crime rate in the metropolis, he said.

Earlier, Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Amin Wains ordered SSP Investigation Rana Ayyaz Saleem to launch crackdown against those possessing illegal arms.–Staff Reporter

The SSP constituted special police squads to “raid and recover” illegal weapons.

According to spokesperson, the police teams comprising investigators of different police stations arrested 55 criminals and recovered huge cache of firearms from their possession.

Meanwhile, SSP Ayyaz Saleem has directed the officers to further expedite the campaign against illegal arms across the metropolis. He said that merit-based investigation into the cases of crimes must be ensured.
