I wish to applaud our test skipper, Misbah ul Haq, for all his achievements. Last month, he received the prestigious International Cricket Council Test Championship mace for inspiring the Pakistani team to the top of the ICC Test Team Rankings for the first time since 2003.

According to a report, Pakistan is the fifth team to top the ICC Test Rankings after Australia, England, India and South Africa. Misbah is the ninth captain to lift the mace after Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Steve Smith, MS Dhoni, Andrew Strauss, Graeme Smith, and Hashim Amla.

It is also important to note the irony of having reached the top position while a ban on international cricket is still in place in Pakistan. Our journey to the top has all been abroad. Unfortunately, local spectators and admirers of the game cannot witness the brilliant performance of the Pakistani team.

I hope our cricket team continues to excel, and we reach the top position in all formats of the game.

BAKHTIYAR PHULLAN,
