It is highly regrettable that the current government is employing authoritative tactics in order to preserve national interests. The recent incident regarding putting a journalist on ECL is a reflex reaction and cannot be justified in any way. The government is only proving its isolation by involving itself in such meaningless actions, and cornering itself in a difficult position. It is the right of journalists to analyse and comment on contemporary developments, and if a story emerges from sources within the leadership, the journalist must not be blamed because he is merely doing his job.

I request the concerned authorities to look into this incident and perhaps take actions to reverse the government’s decision. Freedom of the people must not be compromised.
