KARACHI Aisamul Haq Qureshi has brought honour to the nation with extraordinary performances in US Open and has proved correct the dictum that discipline, dedication and hard work can make miracles, said chairperson of NGO Subah-e-Nau Shahida Farooq. Talking to The Nation here the other day, Ms. Shahida said that achievements of Aismaul Haq had made every Pakistani hold proud at a time when the nation needed good news. His victories at the US Open and his appearance at the famous Arthur Ashe tennis court has proved that Pakistani youngsters could rise to international level if they worked with devotion. She said she prayed that Aisam won both the mixed and mens doubles crowns. It did not happen but his appearance in two finals itself was a great achievement. It was the result of personal dedication and hard work of many years, she added. She also congratulated parents of the player for supporting him over the years. The player had justified the faith that his parents had put in him. She said Aisam has carried on the tradition of a known tennis family. His maternal grandfather Iftikhar Ahmed was an outstanding tennis players of India in pre independence era and was a leading star in the initial years of countrys independence. Aisams mother Nohsheen Ehtesham remained Pakistan womens national champion for many years. She said Subah-e-Nau believes that the best investment in tennis was to encourage youngsters both girls and boys. The NGO has organised a number of national events in Islamabad and Karachi with good prize money to bring the talented into national mainstream tennis. She said Pakistan Tennis Federation should feel proud and reward the players in such a manner that other players were follow the example set by Aisam. She on the diplomatic front Aisam and his Indian partner Bopanna made remarkable contribution by showing to the world that sports could be utilized to create friendship and harmony. She said Aisam had proved a good ambassador for Pakistan than many career diplomats. He delivered a very mature and intelligent speech at the prize distribution ceremony. She also lauded the gesture of mens doubles wining pair for donating the prize money to Pakistans flood affectees.
