KARACHI - Five people including three children drowned during the two days of Eidul Fitr in a storm water drain and sea, in Sarjani area and Paradise Point seaside, separately. On the Eid day, three children drowned in a storm-water drain in Sector L-1 Shadab Pride in the limits of Sarjani Police. The police said that they were identified as 15-year-old Rizwan, son of Umar, 13-year-old Wasif, and 16-year-old Umar, son of Rashid and all the three residents of the same area. They said that they were taking a bath in the drain when drowned. The rescue services, locals and the police, after getting information, rushed to the spot and pulled out the three children. They were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they died. However, after legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to their family. The locals blamed that the authorities concerned failed to fulfil their responsibilities of cleaning the citys storm-water drains as open drains always posed a serious threat to the lives of people, especially the children. Meanwhile, two men drowned in the sea while picnicking at Hawksbay on the second day of Eid. The Docks Police said that Hammad Gul, 28, and Tanveer Khan, 29, were the residents of Bilal Colony Korangi and while picnicking at the beach with their friends when drowned. The rescue workers, following the information, recovered Tanveer in an unconscious state and shifted him to the hospital where he breathed his last after hectic efforts for four hours. The body Hammad was also recovered and shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for completion of legal formalities.
