ISLAMABAD A Lok Virsa team of professionals headed by its Executive Director Khalid Javaid celebrated Eidul Fitr with the flood-affected children in different camps at Nowshera Kalan and Charsadda in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The team was also accompanied by Abdus Sattar Baloch and Nilofar Khan, the two representatives of the Rotary Club Islamabad Green City, during the visit. The team spent a day with the children in the camps and distributed gift packs among them. Some gift packs were also sent to the relief camp in Pubbi. The visit was part of the initiative by the Federal Ministry of Culture to support and facilitate the flood victims as the Federal Cultural Minister Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani has directed to his ministry. Lok Virsa has also conducted a month-long fundraising to prepare about 10,000 gift packs, claimed the Lok Virsa administration. On Chand Rat, Lok Virsa also organised a cultural festival that was mainly aimed at collecting donations for the flood victims. The event was coupled with a musical voluntarily participated by local folk and classical singers including Babar Niazi, Javaid Niazi, Qurban Niazi, Muhammad Ali, Rukhsana Murtaza, Hasnain Pasha, Mehfooz Khokhar, and Rizwana Khan. The Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid said that it was the first time in the history of the country that a cultural organisation like Lok Virsa worked for the victims of the natural calamity at a big level with a joint support from culture loving people. He said that undoubtedly the response was encouraging and positive. We are extremely grateful to all those who contributed for the cause while responding to our request, he added. Giving details about the people and institutions who donated, Khalid said that the Rotary Club Club Green City Islamabad provided one thousand gift packs, Dr Nagina Sadaf of the Custodian Welfare Society, Mandi Bahauddin, contributed three hundred gift packs whereas the Lok Virsa officers their families and friends donated about 150 thousand rupees for the cause. Shaheen Khan, leader of Peoples Party Pakistan Occupied Kashmir also actively participated in this campaign, he added.
