KARACHI – The Karachi University (KU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Mauritius , Republic of Mauritius to initiate academic exchange and scientific cooperation between both the universities. An official of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences on Thursday said that ICCBS Director Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry on behalf of the University of Karachi and Director Quality Assurance of University of Mauritius Dr B F Khodabocus signed the MoU in Karachi. He said that the basic objective of the agreement was to initiate and promote scientific cooperation and academic exchange in various fields of sciences between University of Mauritius and KU . He said, “The University of Mauritius is a tertiary and research institution founded in 1965. It offers part-time and full-time programmes of studies in a wide range of academic disciplines, giving increasing importance to postgraduate training, research and consultancy with a view to responding to the current and emerging needs of the various sectors of the economy. However, KU is recognised as the premier establishment of higher learning and research in the sub-continent and in the developing world, graded as 233 in world ranking of universities in natural sciences.” As per MoU, it was also agreed that major disciplines in which students will be enrolled will include the following fields: management sciences, computer and information technology, chemistry, bioinformatics, structural biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, human genomics, medicinal chemistry, languages, bio-resource management and financial mathematics. It was also agreed that binational workshops/seminar/ conferences will be organised jointly to develop linkages between academicians and researchers. This agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties.
