Benefit of doubt given to 3 accused

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Friday acquitted three accused convicted in murder of two women resisting a robbery and set aside death sentence and life imprisonment by giving them benefit of doubt.
A division bench headed by Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik passed the orders on an appeal moved by Muhammad Zubair, Shamoon and Asad Ali belonging to Sialkot.
The appellant submitted that two women had died in Sialkot in a robbery attempt. Police had arrested the appellants while death sentence was granted to Zubair and Shamoon and life imprisonment to Asad Ali being juvenile, the appellants’ counsel said.
The lawyer pointed out that the trail court granted the punishments despite clear differences between statements of witnesses and case evidences.
The lawyer requested the bench to set aside the decision of trail court and ordered to release the accused.
The bench, after hearing arguments and pursuing the record, acquitted the three accused by giving them benefit of doubt.
