LAHORE - A lower court on Friday awarded jail term to WAPDA employees and imposed heavy fine on them for their involvement in a corruption case.

In 2009 WAPDA Sakuk bonds of Rs180million were sold to NFC but these were scanned and encashed from a bank by some WAPDA employees.

During Friday’s proceedings, special judge central Lahore convicted four accused. Riaz Hussain Shah was awarded life imprisonment with a fine of Rs500,000 under sections 409, 109 of PPC, seven-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 on each account (in three fake bank accounts amount deposited) under sections 420, 468, 468 of PPC; Irfan Sohail was awarded three-year rigorous imprisonment each under Section 468, 471, 5(2)47 of PPC and a fine of Rs100,000; Ahsan Abbas and Humayun were given three year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs100000 each under Section 411 of PPC.

FIA investigated the case and submitted a challan to the court.
