Arrests of PTI workers challenged in LHC

LAHORE - A contempt petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against the Provincial Law Minister, Inspector General Police, Punjab and Deputy Inspector General (Operations) for taking Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf’s workers in their detention illegally.  Zubair Khan Niazi of PTI moved the petition through Barrister Sheraz Zaka and submitted that Lahore High Court had already stopped police from illegally arresting PTI workers. But, he said, police violating the court’s order took hundreds of workers into their illegal detention.
The petitioner said the citizens wanted to take part in PTI Azadi march in Islamabad to exercise their constitutional right to protest but police had started to arrest them. He said police officials and authorities concerned had committed contempt of court by arresting the workers illegally.
He pleaded the court to initiate contempt proceedings against Provincial Law Minister, IGP and DIG (Operations) and order them to release detained workers immediately.
Meanwhile, PTI has served a legal notice on Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq for levelling allegations against its leadership and other national leaders.
Javed Badar of PTI issued the legal notice on Thursday. Badar said that Saad Rafiq should apologize over what he made allegations against national leaders and leadership of his party, otherwise, he warned him of a suit of damages for deformation.  Khawaja Saad Rafiq during joint sessions of the national assembly remarked “those, who are in the habit of having dogs as their pets can’t lead Pakistan. This culture of having dogs as pets is presented by Imran Khan.
