ISLAMABAD - In the face of the growing tension between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz and the main Opposition party PPP, the Senate session would starts here on Monday with a heavy agenda including some of the adjournment motions of MQM Senators who had tendered their resignations.
During the current session of the Senate, to be held with Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani in the chair, Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan would brief the Upper House on the progress on the National Action Plan’s implementation and would also take the House into confidence on the key decisions taken in the recently held a high-level meeting under the chair of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Sources in the ruling PML-N told The Nation that during the current session, the Prime Minister would likely to attend the Senate proceedings and would take the House into confidence on key government policies.
The 28-point agenda also included some of the adjournment motions earlier moved by MQM Senators, who had latter resigned as members of the Upper House but these are still part of the agenda and the final decision on keeping it on the agenda would be decided in the business advisory committee of the Senate to be chaired by Rabbani.
As per agenda, the Standing Committees reports on various bills including Protection of Environment Protection (Amendment) Bill 2015, Protection of Rights Bill 2015 and Stock Exchange (Amendment) Bill 2015 would also be laid before the House.
Parliamentary sources told The Nation that PPP Senators would definitely be coming down hard on the ruling party and would criticise the government on the issues like the alleged irregularities in Nandipur Power Project, withholding tax on bank transactions and other matters.
