Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was laid to rest in Jati Umra, next to the resting place of brother-in-law Abbas Sharif and her father-in-law Mian Sharif. The funeral prayers for the former first lady of Pakistan were offered at Sharif Medical City, with Maulana Tariq Jameel leading the prayers.
Wife of three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Kulsoom Nawaz passed away in London on Tuesday, September 11, after she lost a year-long battle against cancer. Kulsoom Nawaz’s body was flown to Lahore after her funeral prayers were also offered in London on Thursday.
The funeral prayers in Lahore were attended by Sharif family members excluding Begum Kulsoom’s son Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, who said that they could not attend the funeral due to legal complications.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and workers attended the funeral in Lahore. Leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) including Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, NA Speaker Asad Qaiser and leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) were also present at the funeral prayers of the former first lady. MQM-P leader and federal minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and PkMAP chief Mehmood Khan Azhakzai are also attending the funeral prayers.
Earlier on Friday, after her body arrived at Sharif Medical City, Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and Capt (r) Mohammad Safdar who have been released on parole, were taken to the medical facility to pay their last respects.
