Bids for Lehtrar Road project opened

ISLAMABAD- Capital Development Authority (CDA) Tuesday opened tenders sought for the Rs 560 million Lehtrar Road project. Six firms including M/s Habib Rafique, M/s Matracon, Zafar & Co, Chaudhry Latif & Co, M/s Maaksons and Hakas participated in the bidding, among which M/s Maaksons offered the lowest bid (26 % above the estimated cost) while Hakas offered the highest bid (50 % above the estimated cost), Deputy Director Roads (South) Ishfaq Memon informed TheNation. The contract for construction of 8-kilometers long dual carriageways of Lehtrar Road from Tramri Chowk to PINSTECH, if awarded, would be the first new project to be executed after Tariq Mehmood Khan took charge as CDAs Chairman. Memon informed that CDA Board would soon hold a meeting to decide to award contract to the firm offering lowest possible rates. He said there were a number of hurdles in execution of the project including acquisition of land, removal of encroachments and eviction of illegal possessors. He, however, was hopeful that construction work on the project would be initiated within next month if the CDA Board accepted one of the bids.
