Tehreek-e-Hazara rejects Nawaz's stance

ABBOTTABAD One more youth who was shot by the Frontier Police on Tuesday while protesting in favour of the formation of Hazara Province succumbed to his injuries and expired here at Ayub Medical Complex on Wednesday. The 23-year-old Nisar was shot straight in the chest twice by plain clothed policemen at Fawwara Chowk, Abbottabad. Another teenager Khalidoon, admitted in the same hospital, who also received two bullets, is critically injured. Complete shutter down strike was observed across Hazara on the sixteenth consecutive day of Tehreek-e-Hazara Movement. The leadership of Tehreek-e-Hazara, while reacting strongly to PML(N) Quaid Nawaz Sharifs Wednesdays press conference, said that PML (N) was using pitiful tactics for skin saving after it compromised on the wishes of people of Hazara Division to sign the controversial draft of NWFPs renaming, and that too, only for political gains. Nawaz Sharif, in his press conference held at Srikot, a suburb of Haripur, had slammed PML (Q) for politicising the NWFP renaming issue and accused its political leadership of promoting 'dead bodies politics in Hazara. Strangely enough, instead of addressing the grievances of general public in Hazara, Sharif devoted major part of his press conference to ridicule PML (Q) and blamed the political party of 'arranging this melodrama instead of clarifying PML (N)s position on an issue that has brought it under enormous criticism for signing what the political observers say a political deal. Nawaz Sharifs provocative statements might add fuel to fire and further infuriate the already charged people of Abbottabad, Haripur and Mansehra amid numerous attacks on PML (N) leaders in the last couple of days. In addition, the particular press conference that was held in Srikot, clearly reflected that PML(N), at this point, cannot simply afford to appear in public due to expected public backlash against them, that is why a suburb area of Haripur, not the Haripur City that is centre stage of political activities, was chosen for a politically motivated press conference that disappointed the general public in the region. Talking to this scribe here on Wednesday, Chairman Tehreek-e-Hazara Sardar Haider Zaman wondered if Nawaz Sharif had any moral or political grounds to visit Hazara after people had clearly demonstrated their opposition and repulsion towards PML(N). He, once again, clarified that Tehreek-e-Hazara was a purely public movement led by the people of Hazara and prominent leaders from PML(N), PML(Q), and PPP had left their parties to join this movement. People have selected a non-controversial person like me, who does not enjoy any affiliation with any political party, he added. If Nawaz Sharif has public support then why didnt he dare visit Haripur City and Abbottabad that is the hub of this movement? He is here for saving his skin after he ruined our dignity in collusion with ANP, Zaman deplored, adding that Nawaz Sharif demanded of the ANP government to probe the incident while it was the ANP government that staged the killings of innocent protestors. Responding to a query about the media reports that (he) Sardar Haider Zaman had announced an end to protests, he said that such reports did not carry any truth. He said that protestors had been instructed by Tehreek-e-Hazara leadership to allow the movement of vehicles at Shahrah-e-Resham and other related roads, and opening of shops and business activities in order to provide relief to general public, especially women and children. In no way does it refers to calling off protests and Tehreek would continue till the just demands of Hazara community are met, he added. Bar councils of Hazara also condemned Nawaz Sharifs press conference in a joint statement saying that PML(N) stance was evasive and uncalled for. Former Secretary General PPP Havelian and member Hazara Action Committee, Sardar Sheraz Afzal referred to four prominent leaders including himself who left mainstream political parties and joined Tehreek-e-Hazara. The other three leaders include Sardar Shafqat, Waseem Khan Jadoon and Naseer Khan Jadoon who quit PML (Q), PPP and PML (N) membership respectively, to join Tehreek-e-Hazara. He said PML (N) has disappointed Hazara community and their latest press conference would only add to the anger of general public. Central leader Tehreek-e-Hazara and former Deputy Speaker National Assembly Sardar Yaqub said, These hundreds and thousands of people who are protesting for their just demands on each and every street of Hazara are fighting for their legitimate rights. They are not the workers of PML (Q) but the ordinary citizens of Pakistan who are so ruthlessly manhandled by Frontier Police. Meanwhile, on the instructions of Chairman Tehreek-e-Hazara Sardar Haider Zaman, the protestors cleared the roads to allow the flow of traffic at entry and exit points of Hazara Division on Wednesday evening after the three-day mourning in memory of those protestors who were ruthlessly crushed to death by Frontier Police ended. The decision, as reported earlier, has been taken to facilitate general public. A record number of over 250,000 people comprising men, women, youth, children, and elderly fellows joined Wednesdays protests.
