LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said anti-encroachment drive in the City has yielded positive results and not only people have heaved a sigh of relief, but flow of traffic has also improved. He appreciated the cooperation of business community in the removal of encroachments, and assured that no effort would be spared for the promotion of business activities and solution of genuine problems of traders community. He was addressing a meeting of a representative delegation of traders organisations here on Thursday, which reviewed in detail the ongoing campaign against encroachments. Minister Excise and Taxation Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, MNAs Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, MPAs Commissioner, DIG, DCO Lahore and officers of departments concerned were present. The CM observed that mushroom growth of encroachment was causing serious problems for the people as bazaars and streets had chocked while traffic system had also been disrupted. Removal of encroachment is a collective responsibility and a transparent policy has been adopted for this purpose. I have issued clear instructions to the authorities to shun any pressure, he said, adding that he had also directed that poor cart-pushers should not be disturbed and they should be provided alternative land. Land worth billions of rupees has been recovered as a result of the campaign against encroachments, and had political expediencies been kept in view, this valuable land could not have been retrieved, he observed. He also thanked traders community for cooperating in the campaign against encroachments. In response to a demand of the traders regarding construction of parking plazas near busy shopping centres, the CM directed Commissioner Lahore to immediately evolve a plan for this purpose. He also issued instructions to DCO Lahore to cover the drain near Neela Gumbad and start work on the project on the same day. Earlier, Naeem Mir, representing traders community, informed about the problems being faced by the traders due to ongoing campaign against encroachments. The traders assured full cooperation to the CM in the removal of encroachments. DCO Lahore gave a detailed briefing regarding anti-encroachment drive.
