'Disabled job quota yet to be implemented

LAHORE - Special Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that two per cent job quota for disabled in public sector departments was decided by the previous government but unfortunately it was not implemented. She said their government would try to implement laws for special persons in real sprit so they could serve the nation like normal people. She was addressing a function at Special Education and Training Center (SETC), Johar Town on Thursday. The event was organised in connection with 30 years services of the institution. Project Director SETC and Prof Emeritus KEMU Dr Khalida Tareen, TM Sheikh, Prof IAK Tareen, Principal Zarina Farrukh, Dr Aysha Tareen and others were also present. On the occasion, the SETC children presented tableau on Allama Mohammad Iqbals poetry, national anthem, national songs and recreational activities during the function. An exhibition of handicrafts made by special children was also organised on the occasion wherein special children displayed their works. Addressing the ceremony, Zakia Shahnawaz said she would request to government for giving more land without any cost for the extension project of the institution. She praised the disabled childrens performance and said they were serving the nation in real manners. Appreciating the efforts of SETC, she said the institution was enhancing the abilities of disabled persons and made them a responsible citizen. Dr Khalida Tareen in her address said SETC was serving from last 30 years for providing the education, training and vocational facilities to the disabled children. She said some 180 disabled children and 475 normal children of the poor families were also studying in the institution. SETC is providing education, books, uniform and milk among the children at free of cost, she added. TM Sheikh, Principal Zarina Farrukh and Dr Aysha Tareen from UK also addressed on the occasion.
