LAHORE Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman MNA Sahibzada Fazle Karim on Thursday alleged that the Punjab government was creating hurdles in holding Sunni conference at the Minar-e-Pakistan on April 17 (Sunday). Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the government was asking the SIC to change the venue on the pretext of security reasons. Fazle said that it was not possible for the SIC to change venue and date of conference at the eleventh hour. He vowed not to bow before the pressure and hold the event at the same venue on the same day as what he claimed only Minar-i-Pakistan ground was enough to accommodate huge gathering. He said at least 1,000 scholars from across the world would issue a decree against suicide attacks, while a revolutionary manifesto as well as a line of action to overcome the problems being faced by the country would also be presented on the occasion. He said leaders of the SIC constituents had been convened for Friday (today) to prepare future strategy of the 20-member alliance. He urged the government to ensure protection of shrines of Sufis. If it was not possible, the government should withdraw management of shrines from the Auqaf Department and hand it over to them, he demanded.
