LAHORE Tanzeem Al-Fajar Pakistan (TAP) organised a seminar on elimination of tuberculosis with the aim to create awareness in the society. It was presided by President TAP Akmal Ovaisi. Tariq Maqsood was the Chief Guest, while Asher Aashiq, Rubab Khalid, Deeba Afzal and Rahila Bashir were among the speakers. While quoting latest estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), Akmal Ovaisi said TB was killing a person approximately every 20 seconds, nearly 4,700 people every day or 1.7 million in 2009 alone. TB is second only to HIV as the leading infectious killer of adults worldwide. It is among the three greatest causes of death of women aged 15-44 and is the leading infectious cause of death among people with HIV/AIDS, he added.
