KARACHI  - All is set to achieve the targets of polio eradication drive in Karachi’s Lyari Town in spite of law and order situation.
This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Karachi South, Mustafa Kamal Kazi.
He said on Saturday that those private schools creating hindrance in polio eradication campaign would be dealt with under Section 188. Mustafa Kamal Kazi also asked Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to extend full cooperation in making polio campaign a success as according to him, the residents of posh area are resisting polio teams arguing security reasons.
Presiding over a review meeting of District Polio Eradication Committee South in connection with three-day Polio Eradication Campaign from April 13, Deputy Commissioner South said that despite law and order situation, all is set to administer polio drops to one lakh and 15 thousand children in Lyari Town and added that 350 polio teams have been formed to achieve  the target.
He said that 531 teams have been constituted to administer polio vaccine to 1 lakh 31 thousand children of Saddar Town.
Mustafa Kamal stated that UC-9 of Saddar Town needed to be focused as particular community residing there in majority refused to administer polio drops to their children due to certain beliefs. He said that the performance of polio teams was commendable during previous campaigns and appreciated at highest forums as well as federal level.
Deputy Commissioner South stressed upon the stakeholders to continue their dedication and determination to maintain the status and make improvement in upcoming polio round.
He said that missing children was an important issue which needed to attract full attention. “To overcome that issue coordinated effort is required,” he maintained. He directed the stockholders to involve area MPAs, MNAs, Union Council Secretaries, former Nazims and Councillors and Mohallah Committees to attend  to every child of District South and ensure that the campaign started early in the morning at 8.30am.

Administrator DMC South Mohammad Raeesi, Additional Deputy Commissioner South SM Afzal Zaidi, Deputy Director Private Schools, Shireen Memon, Provincial Coordinator Rotary International Masood Bhalle, Benish Hussain, Paras Hafeez and  Sohail Saleem Jadoon of Unicef and representatives of DHA, Cantonment Board, NGOs, Social Welfare, Health and Education departments attended the meeting.
