LAHORE - Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that proprietary rights of the residential flats in labour colonies would be given to the industrial workers so that the dream of workers having their own house could be materialised.

He said that all modern facilities have been provided to the labour colonies being constructed in the province for the labour class ignored over the last 64 years. He said that the aim of equipping the labour colonies with modern facilities is lifting living standard of labourer families so that they could also lead a peaceful life.

The CM said that balloting for provision of residential flats to the labourers in the newly constructed labour colonies of Lahore and Muzaffargarh would be held on May 1. He said this while presiding over a meeting held with regard to labour welfare complexes here Saturday.

Shahbaz that all the industrial workers of district Lahore would be eligible to apply for flats in the recently completed labour colony having 1,296 flats. He said that five per cent quota has been allocated for the widows of the labourers in these labour colonies. Orphans and widows will get their own shelter through this step and will live with a sense of protection, he added.

He said that these flats would be given on ownership basis to the labourers. He said that this scheme should be advertised widely for ensuring the participation of maximum deserving labourers in the balloting. The Chief Minister said that a separate 15 percent quota has been reserved for the women industrial workers in these flats for the welfare of working women. Similarly, two per cent quota has been allocated for disabled laoburers, he added. The CM directed on this occasion that the minimum age limit for the condition of eligibility for submitting applications should be fixed three years whereas the labourers of more service should be given preference. Similarly, the meeting also decided to fix 25 per cent quota for the industrial workers having the documentary record of more than five years.

The CM directed that best quality of construction should be ensured in the welfare projects of industrial workers and third party validation of these projects should also be conducted.
