LAHORE -A delegation of China Machinery Engineering Corporation led by its president Zhang Chun called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Monday.

Matters regarding cooperation in energy sector were discussed in the meeting. China Machinery Engineering Corporation expressed interest in investment in coal power projects in Punjab.

Talking to the Chinese delegation, the Chief Minister said that the close friendly relations between China and Pakistan have turned into useful economic contacts. He said that excellent economic policies of Pakistan Muslim League-N government have restored the confidence of foreign investors. He said that government is providing all out facilities to foreign investors on priority basis. He said that important progress has been made with regard to coal power project during his recent visit to China. He said that Punjab government has selected six sites for establishing coal power projects in the province. He said that an agreement has been finalised with Chinese companies for setting up two power plants of 660 megawatts in Sahiwal while the interest shown by China Machinery Engineering Corporation in setting up coal power plants in Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh augur well and Punjab government would provide maximum facilities for this purpose.

President of China Machinery Engineering Corporation Zhang Chun informed the Chief Minister that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the government for setting up coal power project in Gadani. He said that his company wants to invest in energy sector in Punjab and is desirous of establishing coal power plants at selected places in Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh. Provincial Minister for Minerals Sher Ali Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Energy, Secretary Minerals and other concerned officers were also present.
