ATTOCK - Transportation of prisoners by public service vehicles has become a routine matter as the police personnel are not provided with transport facility for this purpose.

The practice causes inconvenience and mental agony to the commuters. However, police personnel said no transport facility was provided for them by the department for the shifting of accused to different locations. A few days ago, a handcuffed “drug peddler” was shifted from Jand to Attock in public service vehicle. The accused was exchanging hard and abusive words with the policemen loudly thereby disturbing the commuters specially females who were travelling by the same vehicle.

On July 8, 2012, accused Amjad Khan was being transported by a taxi from Rawalpindi to Attock. Meanwhile, Constable Najamul Hasan and taxi driver Mudassir Ghayas were shot dead while Sub Inspector Jameel Ahmad Shah and Constable Ashfaq Ahmed were injured when his accomplices attacked the taxi for his release.  When contacted, then district police officer of Attock said that shifting of criminals in public transport was violation of the rules and standard operating procedures.

Despite repeated attempts, the Attock DPO could not be accessed for his comments on the situation.
