KHYBER AGENCY -To initiate audit of the administration of Khyber Agency , the members of sub-standing committee of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) paid a visit to Torkham border to practically assess income being generated through legal and illegal ways of trade here at the Pak-Afghan bordering area of Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency .

Since the creation of Pakistan, it is first time in the history of Fata, when SAFRON sub-standing committee has started making audit of political administration of the Khyber Agency . The committee members, including MNA Shahji Gul Afridi, MNA Qaiser Jamal of PTI and MNA Ghalib Khan of PML-N of South Waziristan recently held a meeting with PA Khyber Agency in the Khyber House under the Chairmanship of MNA Sahibzada Tariqullah.

Talking to the media, PTI MNA from Frontier Regions (FATA) and member of the committee Qaiser Jamal said that almost all members of the committee after visiting the PA House expressed reservations over the official audit record, adding it was totally unsatisfactory. About their visit to the Torkham border, Qaiser said that they had visited the bordering area along with other members of the committee, evaluated all happenings and met with local tribesmen, who shared their grievances and complaints about officials of political administration and Frontier Corps (FC) deployed at Torkham border.

He claimed they knew from current visit that FC officials performing duties at Torkham border are also involved in illegal collection of money. "A high level meeting to be held with Inspector General (IG) FC to tackle the issue with him," he added.

Peoples have also complained about officials of Torkham Custom, who come for duty at 11:00 am and back at 2:00 pm," he said and added it had multiplied the troubles of drivers and clearing agents at bordering area.

"After meetings and visits, we will report actual story and also give valuable suggestions and recommendations in the lights of observations," he told. He said that it was also the responsibility of the committee to give advises in lights of current visits and meetings for better solution and to bring concrete changes in old system of political administration.

Qaiser Jamal further informed that meetings with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister and President of Pakistan would be held with regard to recent measures taken by SAFRON sub-standing committee.

It is to be stated here that the process of audit started first from Khyber Agency and it will be extended to other tribal agencies and frontier regions. It is worth mentioning here that political administration from the day first has been involved in corruption and collection of money through unfair means from local tribesmen and drivers of Afghan Transit Trade and NATO vehicles.
