KARACHI  - Balochistan National Party leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal warned that his party members would resign from the assemblies if the federal government didn’t change its mindset as far as the issues of Balochistan are concerned.

“If the government carries on the same attitude and does not stop the political-economic carnage, we’ll resign from the assemblies.”

Mengal called Muhajir Qaumi Movement (Haqqiqi) chairman Afaq Ahmed at his resident here on Monday. Various matters especially the deteriorated law and order situation in Balochistan came under discussion while both the leaders stressed upon the resolving the issues on immediate basis.

Talking to media after the meeting, Mengal said that the cities of Balochistan are ruined; earlier the mutilated bodies were found in different parts of the province but now the mass graves are being recovered.

On the occasion, Afaq said that the victimisation of Baloch people should be stopped, as the use of force in Waziristan and Balochistan could never press the masses’ struggle for their rights. He said that the issues of Baloch people were not only the matters of Balochistan but the situation of unrest was interlinked with the whole nation. He said that former military ruler Pervez Musharraf brought the NRO and withdrawn cases against all political party leaders, forming a government on the shoulder of such politicians.

To a question about the MQM chief’s return to Pakistan, Afaq said, “I’ll welcome Altaf Hussain at the airport if he surrendered his British Nationality and came back to Pakistan.”

To another question about the Karachi situation, he said that both Balochistan and Karachi are facing a similar situation, as bodies are also been recovered in the city just like Balochistan. He demanded that the culprits should be made accountable in the courts according to the law.
