LAHORE - A local court yesterday issued notice to Medical Superintendent of Punjab Institute of Cardiology, police officials of Shadman police stations and other unknown persons involved in torturing the doctors protesting against termination of their fellow pharmacist at Jail road few days ago.

Additional District and Sessions judge Mazhar Saleem passed the order on an application filed by Dr Samra Majeed, Dr Javairia and others.

In their application, the petitioners said that the police officials in plain clothes beat the peaceful protestors outside Punjab Institute of Cardiology.

They stated they were protesting against wrongful termination of their fellow pharmacist Dr Fareeha Majeed after she disclosed corruption in sale/purchase of medicine at PIC. They said the police officials tortured women and attacked journalists present there for media coverage.

According to the petitioners, the cops also thrashed women doctors. They prayed to the court to take action against PIC MS Dr Sohail Saqlain, Principal Dr Nadeem Hayat Malik, Shadman SHO and others for torturing peaceful doctors and media persons outside PIC.

After hearing initial arguments, the judge sought reply from the respondents and put off further hearing until April 25.
