Rawalpindi - Dozens of doctors mercilessly thrashed attendants of a patient over petty issue outside the Emergency Department of Benazir Bhutto Hospital, sources and eyewitnesses told The Nation yesterday.

Medical Superintendent of BBH constituted an inquiry committee to probe the incident while both parties approached police for legal action against each other, sources said.

According to sources and eyewitnesses, two persons brought a patient namely Wijahat at OPD of BBH from Range Road for medical treatment.

The patient sustained bullet injury some four days ago, they said, adding that the doctors kicked out the patient and his attendants from the OPD instead of treating him. Dozens of doctors working in surgery department and OPD attacked the patient and his attendants outside the ER. The doctors subjected them to severe torture.

Later, the senior doctors intervened and rescued the patient and his attendants.

Taking action, MS BBH made an inquiry committee comprised DMS Dr Zafar and Dr Rana Abbas to probe the matter, they said.

DMS Dr Rana Abbas told media that the committee was inquiring the matter on orders of MS. On the other hand, the doctors and the victims lodged separate complaints with police seeking legal action.
