Govt under fire over energy crisis

LAHORE - PPP leader Naveed Chaudhary has asked the government to reduce the budget deficit, indirect taxes and dependence of foreign loans in the upcoming annual budget 2016-17.
Addressing the pre-budget forum at Aiwan-e-Waqt yesterday, the coordinator to former president Asif Ali Zardari demanded cut in petroleum prices according to the international market. He said the masses should be provided direct benefit of the reduction of fuel prices at international market.
Terming energy crisis as the biggest problem of Pakistan, he said the government should focus on building power projects to control the massive load shedding.
He said the involvement of Sharif Family in Panama Leaks brought disgrace to Pakistan. “How the foreign investors would come to the country when its own prime minister invested abroad,” he stated.
“The budget should be people friendly. The government must take steps to control inflation and unemployment,” the PPP leader added.
The defense allocations should be reconsidered in the annual budget, he said, adding the government must take practical steps to enhance the tax network.
