ISLAMABAD - Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid yesterday said that terrorism and extremism were common enemies of Pakistan and Iran.
He termed the recent visit of Iranian President Hasan Rouhani a great success and that the gains made during the visit would be further consolidated and capitalized for the mutual benefit of the peoples of the both countries.
He was talking to Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost, who called on him here.
The minister said both countries will make joint and concerted efforts to thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists to ensure peace and security in the region.
Rashid said, Pakistan wants to enhance cooperation with Iran in the areas of trade, economy, science and technology, border management, parliamentary exchanges, culture and people to people contacts.
Iranian Ambassador said that the security of Iran and Pakistan is closely intertwined and Iran views Pakistan’s security as its own security.
He also held out an assurance that Iran will not allow use of its soil against any other country.
Matters relating to media cooperation between the two countries also came up for discussion during the meeting.
The Iranian Ambassador also emphasized the need for frequent high level visits and exchange of media delegations to learn from each other’s experiences and best practices. The Minister assured his full cooperation to Ambassador in this regard.
