KARACHI - The KMC has launched a drive to remove cables, wires and other installations from roads of the metropolis, in line with directives of the Supreme Court. City Mayor Wasim Akhtar said in a statement on Saturday the first phase of the drive has started from I.I. Chundrigar Road and its surrounding areas. The KMC will remove all wires and cables, which hanged on poles and streets in the area, he said. Later, he said, the drive will be expanded to other parts of the city.

The mayor said that KMC will implement the court orders and remove all wires, cables and other installations from the city roads. He said that KMC had published notices in various newspapers about three months ago about removal of cables and other installations from roads but cable and internet service provider companies did not heed to the notice.

Finally, he said, the KMC decided to remove all cables and other installations from roads on its own. “Cable and internet service provider companies should remove their installations from roads otherwise these will be removed and seized,” he said. The mayor asked the marketing companies to cooperate with the KMC to restore face of the city.
