LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the Food Stamp Scheme worth over Rs 22 billion during a ceremony held at GPO. The Chief Minister distributed cheques among the poor segments of the society during ceremony. Addressing the function, Shehbaz Sharif said that no less than 1.8 million families would get relief through this scheme and money-order of Rs 1000 would be posted at their mailing address on monthly basis. He said the provincial government would provide relief to poor, needy and disabled persons at their doorsteps without any compromise on their self-esteem. He said that it was his desire to distribute more financial support among poor people but it was a short-term programme and the government would also arrange technical training in future for those people who were getting financial support through this programme and later the government would also provide jobs for those young men who would get the training. Samiullah Ch, Chairman Food Stamp Scheme (South) said the government would distribute Rs 22 billion among the needy families. He said data for poor families had been collected through DCOs with the help of Pakistan Post and Education department staff. He said it was emergency grants and each poor family would get Rs 1000 on every month through post offices.  SA Hameed Chairman North, Rana Shamshad Post Master General Punjab also addressed on the occasion.
