The game over?

The poor performance of Pakistan cricket team in England shows the game in Pakistan is also a victim of the general decline. Thanks to Javed Miandad, Imran Khan, Waseem Akram and Waqar Younus, Pakistan had ruled the world of cricket in the 90s when it was always among top teams but now the situation has changed completely. Young players are not able to adjust with the fast tracks in Australia and England. Political interference and infighting in the team has also played a part in decline. Former captains Younus Khan and Muhammad Yusuf were forced to retire from Pakistan cricket. Most members on the Pakistan Cricket Board are nominees of the ruling party. They dont have any sense of cricket. Then there is the menace of match-fixing scandals and the security reasons because of which Pakistan is unable to conduct any Test series at home. The dwindling economic conditions are also keeping the young generation away from cricket. -MUHAMMED JAMIL ATHER, Karachi, August 13.
