QUETTA - The 65th Independent Day was celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour across Balochistan on Tuesday as different functions were organised by army, Frontier Corps (FC), provincial government and civil society to mark the occasion.

Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani, Speaker Balochistan Assembly Muhammad Aslam Bhootani, Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Qazi Faez Essa and FC IG Major General Obaidullah Khan Khattak hoisted national flag in different functions in the provincial capital. The main function was held in Nawab Nauroz Sports Complex where Raisani hoisted the national flag while the FC chief, speaker and provincial ministers were also present on the occasion. A large number of people, including school children attended the function where school children presented tableau, local dance and sang national songs expressing their fervour and zeal.

The personnel of FC gave a salutation to the participants of function through helicopters while FC personnel and Civil Defence also demonstrated their skills and gained much applause from the audience.

The Balochistan chief justice hoisted national flag in the high court and the function was attended by judges of subordinate courts and other officials.

An important gathering was held at the Governor’s House where Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi conferred medals on the six martyred and two serving police officials. The fourth function was held in the premises of Balochistan Assembly where Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani hoisted the flag.

Provincial ministers including Mir Asim Kurd, Mir Shahnawaz Marri, Zamarak Piralizai, Aslam Bizenjo, Tahir Mehmood and Jaffer George and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. The provincial assembly premises had been decorated with national flags and fancy lights. A large number of citizens attended the flag hoisting ceremony at the assembly, while school children sang national songs.

In his speech, Bhootani said the situation of the country and the provinces implied that Independence Day should not only be limited to celebrations. He said the forefathers rendered numerous sacrifices for this country but unfortunately the democracy was not allowed to flourish, thus despite lapse of six decades democracy was not strengthen while every citizen felt insecurity.

“We wasted too much time in differences between each other, thus we do not more to time repeat those mistakes because we are facing internal and external challenges.

It is the time that we all nationalities living in the country should become unite and wage a joint struggle to steer out the country from all challenges.” He said the federal government had taken enough steps to remove the sense of deprivation of people of Balochistan.

Meanwhile, different programmes in connection with the Independence Day were also held in districts where commissioners and deputy commissioners hoisted national flag.
