SWAT – Like the entire country, the Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with due exuberance, national spirit and pomp and show in Swat.

The administration of people of Swat said held various functions in this connection.

All the bazaars and markets were decorated with Pakistani national flags and every nook and corner of the city was looking green.  All the important private buildings, schools, bakeries, shops, markets and some of mosques have been illuminated as a part of the Independence Day celebrations.

The arrangements in the Mingora city were also worth seeing, as people were waiving national flags while binding green ribbons to their arms. The roads presented a beautiful look as people were out to celebrate the joyous day.

National flag hoisting ceremony was held at Javed Iqbal Shaheed Police Line where DIG Akhtar Hayat Khan and DPO Gul Afzal Afridi paid homage to martyrs of Swat.

After the Iftar, Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao, Youth Wing, organised a motorbike rally which was led by PPP(S) Deputy General Sectary KPK Fazal Rehman Nono, the rally started from Green Chowk and ended at Saidu Sharif.  The workers and supporters were holding Pakistani Flags, chanting slogans of Pakistan Zindabad and played the national anthem at high volume at their vehicles.

When the rally was going from the main routes of the city the people were seemed to be joyous as the dream of peaceful Swat becomes reality.

Talking to TheNation, locals said that August 14 is of great significance and importance to every Pakistani and they proudly celebrate this day with great enthusiasm.
