NEW DELHI- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today greeted his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on India’s 68th Independence Day .
Modi had also congratulated Pakistan on its Independence Day on August 14th.

PM Nawaz Sharif’s message was released in a statement by the Pakistan High Commission. “Prime Minister Sharif greets Prime Minister Modi on India’s Independence Day , wishing prosperity to the people of India ,” read the statement. A friendly exchange of greetings between the two premiers follows a strong rebuttal by Pakistan when Modi accused Pakistan being involved in a ‘proxy
war’ against India .

Modi’s accusations were termed as “baseless rhetoric” by Pakistan’s Foreign Office. Foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet in Islamabad on August 25.
