Political chaos: JI unfolds 5-point formula

| Sirajul Haq says Pakistan Movement-like spirit needed again

LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq on Thursday presented 5-point formulae to pull the country out of the persisting political crisis.
The points are: recounting in the constituencies where alleged rigging took place, earliest possible completion of the task assigned to the Supreme Court commission to probe into rigging, reconstitution of the Election Commission this being a national demand, the Parliamentary Commission for electoral reforms should present its recommendations before the Parliament within three months. All the party heads should give guideline to the committee, holding of elections on proportionate representation to check parties blackmailing and the change of the government should be only in accordance with the procedure laid down in the constitution as any extra-constitutional method would be disastrous for all concerned.
The JI chief announced the formulae at a news conference after a meeting with the senior party leaders including JI secretary general Liaqat Baloch, deputy chief Hafiz Idrees and Punjab chief Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar.
Sirajul Haq congratulated the nation on having a peaceful Independence Day, and said that all the apprehensions of bloodshed on long march had died out. He thanked the political and religious parties and the media for encouraging the JI leadership in its efforts for the rapprochement between the two sides.
The JI chief said that long march and peaceful protest was the lawful right of the Opposition; therefore, the government should not adopt unlawful method to crush protest. He said that political confrontation could only lead to a tragedy. He said it was matter of great satisfaction that the government had removed the containers placed on various roads and the long march started peacefully, which was a good omen. He said that Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi rang him this morning and gave an assurance that the PTI march would be peaceful. He said the JI would try till the last moment that the long march did not turn into ‘double march.’
While hoisting national flag at Mansoora, Sirajul Haq stressed the nation would have to rise again with the spirit of the Pakistan Movement in order to achieve the sublime objectives of the creation of this Muslim homeland. Hundreds of the JI workers besides the party leaders were presents on the occasion.
The JI chief paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Movement, and said they had sacrificed their lives to secure the future of the nation and laid the foundation of an ideological state on the model of the state of Madina.
Sirajul Haq said the political parties and armed forces would have to protect the geographical borders as well as the ideology of Pakistan. He said that national unity and harmony was a much bigger need of the country than a nuclear bomb. The colonial powers hostile to Islam wanted to weaken the country by fanning ethnic, racial and regional biases, he said. He said the biggest cause of the present chaos and anarchy in the country was failure of the ruling elite in the true implementation of the constitution. He said the rulers treated the constitution as a toy. He said the JI would offer every sacrifice to build the country as a great and strong Islamic and welfare state.
Referring to the crisis prevailing in the country, Sirajul Haq expressed his gratitude to Allah Almighty that his untiring efforts had born fruit and the nation was celebrating the 68th Independence Day in a befitting manner. He said it was due to his efforts that the government had agreed to open the roads and remove obstacles while Imran Khan had given an assurance to keep his protest peaceful.
