Man arrested under cybercrime bill for blackmailing women in Naushera

A man from Naushera has been arrested under cybercrime bill for blackmailing women on social media, reported Waqt News.

“29-year-old Mehranullah used to blackmail women on Facebook by uploading fake videos,” the Nowshera DPO said.

He use to upload videos and pictures of women on social media and then use to black mail them for money. A number of women had given him money to save themselves. During interrogation he disclosed that he was working with around 15 people. He is a drug addict for which he was involved in illegal activities.

The suspect gave out names of 15 of his accomplices who were involved in blackmailing victims on social media, the DPO added.

Police also claimed to have recovered a pistol and a mobile phone from the possession of the accused. Further, a case under the recently approved cybercrime bill has been registered against the suspect.

Last week Cyber Crime Bill was passed by the National Assembly. President of Pakistan’s signatures are still awaited.
