ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday said the federal government attached high importance to the security of Chinese workers engaged in construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

Nisar, who met Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong here at the Punjab House, said his country is fully committed to early completion of CPEC projects.

“Friendly relations between Pakistan and China are based on mutual trust and respect that meet the common aspirations of their people,” said the minister. He added that the Sino-Pak all-round strategic partnership is meant to promote peace, security and prosperity in the region.

Nisar regretted inimical forces project their deep-rooted and sincere friendship in a negative way. He reiterated that no country or power could become hurdle in the way of Pakistan and China’s ever-growing mutually cooperative partnership.

He lauded the Chinese government’s position and its consistent efforts towards peace and security, and its special gesture of goodwill towards the people of Pakistan.

China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong assured that his country fully stands by its Pakistani brothers and sisters in their war against terrorism and extremism.

According to official sources, the two sides during the meeting discussed matters of mutual interests, particularly those relating to CPEC and counter-terrorism.

Sun Weidong strongly condemned Quetta blasts. He expressed his sorrow and grief over this grave loss on behalf of the government and the people of China.

The Chinese ambassador appreciated Pakistani government’s efforts towards peace and security, hoping that these will pave the way for smooth implementation of CPEC.
