ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers should formulate a “national policy” on Afghan refugees who have been living in Pakistan for the past four decades, Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Monday.

Afghan refugees have blended with the people of Pakistan, while some of them have acquired illegal Pakistani identity cards and passports as well, the interior minister told lawmakers here in National Assembly.

Commenting on the confiscation of licensed weapons from Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s headquarters by security agencies, Nisar said report will be presented on this issue after discussion with the relevant organisations.

The interior minister said he was unaware of the confiscation of licensed weapons from MQM headquarters. “I will take action against the interior ministry officers if they do not come despite notification,” he added.

Nisar also said he would take all-out action regarding MQM’s missing persons.

The minister said he had asked for judicial inquiry into MQM worker’s death under custody, but Sindh chief secretary did not want judicial inquiry into the matter.
