ISLAMABAD - Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) routed Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) DG XI by seven wickets in a friendly floodlight cricket match played here at Jinnah Stadium on late Saturday night to mark Independence Day.

PSB DG XI, batting first, were off to flying start as openers Nasrullah Rana and skipper Syed Habib Shah gathered 56 for the opening partnership in only five overs. Mohsin Ali provided much-needed breakthrough in the sixth over as he bowled out Nasrullah. Shakir Abbasi then removed Syed Habib Shah in the very next over. Shah Khalid, Shafique Ahmed and Arif Mehmood also chipped in one wicket each and restricted PSB DG XI to 72-5 in the allotted 10 overs. Habib Shah made 24, Shahidul Islam 20 and Nasruallh Rana 17. Mohsin, Shakir also got one wicket each.

RISJA, in reply, as per promise to finish the match within seven overs, achieve the target in 6.3 overs for the loss of three wickets. Afzal Javed slammed unbeaten 32 while Shakir contributed 17, Mohsin 12 and Shah Khalid unbeaten 12.

Later, chief gust Syed Habib Shah along with DDG Facilities Agha Amjed Ullah, patron RISJA Shakeel Awan, Shahryar Khan and others handed over man of the match award to Afzal Javed for his brilliant match-winning performance, while Mohsin Ali received the winning trophy.

Speaking at the occasion, acting PSB DG Syed Habib Shah said: “The PSB and RISJA match doubled the celebrations of Independence Day. It was not about winning or losing, but it was a tribute to our motherland through cricket.”
