Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) took oath as Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Peshawar on Wednesday.
Sardar Aurangzeb Nalota who acted as a presiding officer of the session administered the oath.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had nominated Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani for speaker and Mehmood Jan for the slot of deputy speaker.
He secured 81 votes. His rival Laiq Muhammad Khan of Awami National Party got 27 votes.
Mushtaq Ghani was a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018 and served in the provincial cabinet of former chief minister Pervez Khattak as the minister for Higher Education and Information.
Earlier while talking to media Mushtaq Ghani pledged to give legislation top priority. He said that opposition parties would be taken on board while doing legislation.
"No stone would be left unturned to implement party chairman’s vision, PTI government in centre and two provinces would never disappoint people as they have reposed confidence in them", he further added.
The voting is underway for speaker and deputy speaker of the Sindh and Balochistan assemblies.
