Political front hot in AJK too

ISLAMABAD - Amid intensified political pushes and pulls triggered by the formation of PML-N in AJK, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry joined Pakistan Peoples Party here on Tuesday. The development forecasts a heatedly charged up scenario for pitched political battle in AJK between two longstanding arch foes, PML-N and PPP. The deliberations between President Peoples Muslim League (PML) Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and top leadership of PPP including Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Khursheed Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Faryal Talpoor and Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo were underway since last August but the eventual breakthrough reportedly came on Saturday evening after a crucial meeting between the PM and Sultan had taken place. Its like I have returned back to my home. PPP is my own party. I remained PM, opposition leader, and performed important duties from PPPs platform for over 10 years. Due to some misunderstandings, I had to leave the party but everything is settled now and Im back. My heart and conscience are pretty much satisfied that Ive done the right thing, Barrister Sultan Mehmood told this scribe in a telephonic conversation on Tuesday. He claimed that PPP would win the next years general elections in AJK with a clean sweep. The polls are scheduled to be held in April. During last elections, he said, the PPPs vote bank was divided and the same would happen with Muslim Conference and PML-N. Things would be totally different this time, the split between the vote banks of PML-N and Muslim Conference would give us a natural advantage to come in a big way in the upcoming general elections. In the last elections, there were some misunderstandings between me and my party which adversely affected us, Sultan noted. He confirmed to have been in continuous contact with top PPP brass since last four months. Earlier on Tuesday, Sultan Mehmood, in a joint press conference with Faryal Talpur, held at Zardari House, had announced his inclusion in the PPP. The PML-N leaders say that the inclusion of Barrister Sultan Mehmood in PPP would not affect N-League politically. Previously, he was part of Liberation League and Azad Muslim Conference, then he switched sides to PPP, after that he made his own party and now he is back to PPP. Thats nothing new for us and it doesnt matter to us, Sardar Sikandar Hayat, former AJK PM and expected chairman of PML-N AJK chapter told this journalist. He claimed that close associates of Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary including Col Ghani, Yaseen Gulshan and Arshad Qazi had joined PML-N. Several members in Barrister sahibs PML are the followers of Muslim League ideology.
