QUETTA - Balochistan Constabulary acting Commandant Khalil Zehri narrowly escaped a remote controlled bomb blast that left eight people including a BC personnel injured here on Friday.

Kechi Baig Police Station official Manzoor Ahmed said that the explosives were planted in a bicycle parked outside a hotel close to Govt Degree College. “The explosives went off soon after a BC vehicle passed by,” he said adding that about eight people were wounded in the blast that scattered windowpanes of nearby buildings.

DIG Investigation Hamid Shakeel informed media that Zehri was the main target of the attack carried out through a remote-controlled device. “Security has been beefed up in read zone areas and security personnel have been deployed to have a vigil eye on anti-social elements,” he added.  An official of Bomb Disposal Squad said that about 5 to 7 kg explosives were used in the blast.

FC and police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. Rescue workers shifted injured to the Civil Hospital Quetta for medical aid.

The injured were identified as Sabir Ali and Muhammad Nawaz, Ghulam Rasool, Haji Shams, Abdul Hakeem, Alam Shah, Muhammad Usman, Maqsood Ahmed and Shabbir Hussain. One of the injured is sated to be in critical condition.

No group claimed responsibility of the attack and police have started investigation into the blast.
