HDP holds protest against target killings

QUETTA – A large number of activists of the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) staged a demonstration in front of the Balochistan High Court Friday, protesting against targeted killings of Hazara community members in Quetta.
They were carrying placards and banners bearing different slogans and pressing the government to take concrete steps to stop killings of Hazara people. They also shouted slogans against the government and its functionaries for their failure to curb the incidents of sectarian killings.
Addressing the protesters, Hazara Democratic Party leaders Mirza Hussain Hazara, Sardar Sahil, Ghulam Raza and others said that Hazara community people are being targeted extensively to fan differences among various communities living in Balochistan. They said their ancestors rendered a lot of sacrifices for this land but there were some elements who wanted to occupy possessions of the community by spreading sectarian violence in the province.
They clarified that neither they would leave their homes nor let the conspirators execute their nefarious designs. They said that more than 800 Hazara community people had been martyred so far in target killing incidents. They accused the government and law enforcement agencies for adopting a criminal silence over the situation. They said that despite repeated target killing incidents, the perpetrators managed to flee in the presence of thousands of law enforcement agencies deployed in the city.
They said they are hopeful that the country’s judiciary would provide them justice; that is why they are holding a peaceful protest outside the court.  Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
