Lahore - Awais Zia hit impressive century to put Rawalpindi in the driving seat against Karachi in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2013-2014 sixth round Group-I match here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Awais Zia slammed 123 runs hitting 20 boundaries, while Baber Naeem contributed important 78 runs and Muzamil Nizam unbeaten 56 as Rawalpindi finished the day two for 320 runs for the loss of four wickets in 73 overs. Rawalpindi were enjoying a lead of 64 runs with six wickets were still intact. Ali Mudassar and Rajesh Ramesh bowled well and took two wickets each. Earlier, Karachi Blues resumed their first innings at the overnight score of 254 for the loss of eight wickets and were all out for 266 runs in 81.2 overs. Nasir Malik clinched five wickets for 108 runs while Tayyab took three wickets for 68 and Baber claimed two wickets for 39.

At Arbab Niaz Stadium, Israrullah smashed unbeaten 184 to put Peshawar in command against Lahore. Peshawar finished day two at 317-2 and took a lead of 88 runs with wickets still intact. M Idrees played an impressive knock of unbeaten 74 runs. Bilawal Iqbal bowled well and took 2-52.

In Group-II match played at Diamond cricket ground, Islamabad looked all set to seal a comfortable victory against Quetta, who, after following on, scored three for the loss of one wicket in their second innings. They need another 233 runs to avoid innings defeat. Islamabad resumed their first innings at the overnight score of 373-6 in 80 overs and declared their first innings at 444-8 wickets in 94 overs. Faizan Riaz remained unbeaten at 256 runs hitting massive 42 boundaries. Gohar Faiz took 4-118 and Arun Lal got 3-120.
