Lahore - Shafiq Masih of Lahore Gymkhana emerged as the sole leader in the Shezan International-endorsed 3rd Quaid-e-Azam Open Golf Championship at the end of the second round here at the Lahore Gymkhana golf course on Saturday.

Shafiq played a superb round of five under par 67 during the 18 holes by following a trail of excellence which gave him a two rounds (36 holes) aggregate score of 135, nine under par, and in the process he relegated Matloob Ahmed of Ufone to second position.

Shafiq and Matloob were joint overnight leaders but Matloob slid from the top position by three shots and Shafiq became the dominant one, going into the final phase of the championship. For two rounds, Shafiq had an aggregate score of 135, nine under par, whereas Matloob was placed at an aggregate score of 138, six under par.

The competition in the amateur section was sharp too and though M Rehman of Royal Palm Golf Club continued to lead with scores of 72 and 74 and an aggregate of 146, he was closely followed by Fakhar Imam of Defence Raya who was placed at a score of 147, only one stroke behind.
