The citizens here have witnessed a record increase in the snatching and stealing of motorcycles in Sialkot district during 2015 while the remained unable to trace out the culprits directly or indirectly involved in the incidents.

According to official statistics, Daska police precincts remained on top in motorcycle theft and snatching incidents. Dacoits snatched 41 motorcycles during separate incidents while unknown bike-lifters took away 98 motorcycles in Daska police circle during eleven months of the current year.

In Daska, 71 dacoities, 66 house and shops burglaries and 115 thefts occurred in various parts of Daska city while 38 separate incidents of kidnapping were also registered in Daska police circle.

Unknown dacoits snatched 25 motorcycles in separate incidents, besides 12 motorcycles and two cars were also stolen from various parts of Sialkot city during the last month. Thirteen incidents of major robberies and eight incidents of house burglaries were also reported from Sialkot city. When contacted, police officials said that the shortage of police personnel remained the main cause behind the Sialkot police failure in controlling the street crimes in Sialkot district.

POPULATION WELFARE PLANNED: The Punjab government would soon establish 1,000 population welfare centres across the Punjab while work for the establishment 250 centres was rapidly in progress.

The centres are aimed to motivate the people to control population growth, said Population Welfare Punjab Director General Naeemuddin.

Talking to the officials during his visit to Population Welfare Department, he added that country could not develop without controlling population growth, saying that all the segments of the society should come forward to play a role in motivating the people to control the population growth by adopting the family planning methods as well.
